CUBADUPA 2021

We made music with a lightning maker. It’s called a Tesla Coil and it makes sound by cracking the air with a high-voltage bolt. While it's not safe to touch, we enjoyed mixing its sound with drones, electronic grooves and free improvisation.

This world premiere was a collaboration with the electrical and coding genius of Josh Bailey. A live recording is now available on Spotify and Apple Music. You can purchase the album on Bandcamp.

BOAT also featured in CubaSonic a multi-speaker project by composer John Psathas for over 400 musicians.

The Experiment 2019

Hosted by Monster Valley, the Experiment is described as a night of debauchery where the best of New Zealand’s alternative art and music scenes let loose to experiment with our minds, bodies and souls. BOAT experimented with Ableton Live using triggered sections to support extended improvisation.

The Experiment 2018

Featuring over 50 acts at the Whammy Bar, Auckland and claiming to test you physically and mentally, BOAT performed To Enter You Must Pass the Wall of Sound. All people entering the festival had to pass between live drums and guitar. BOAT also experimented by performing with a Raspberry Pi.
